Back at it, early up on Loughrigg

It has indeed been a long time since a blog update. 2022 was not a great year but I'm endeavouring to get back out with the camera more often these days, and this morning provided an unexpectedly strong inversion over Windermere and around the valleys surrounding Loughrigg Fell, so after a quick check on the webcam I decided to just get my ass out of bed and come up with a plan on the way. With only leaving myself about 30 minutes before sunrise, and Windermere being pea soup, I decided to park up at Fishgarths Wood and cut through the short hike up to Loughrigg with the intent of shooting down into the mist on what seemed to be a rather clear sky morning. Once I got above the inversion though it was clear there was more cloud than forecast, albeit with a good size gap towards the sunrise. Excellent. I got myself in a good vantage point overlooking Elterwater and waited. The gap however did get smaller, and more low cloud threatened to make the window of opportunity for some nice golden sidelight rather slim. The hazy first peek of the sun rendered it in a pleasing sphere, and I decided to get out the 100-400mm and really zoom in on that for some atmospheric silhouette. As I'd guessed, the light was still too weak to impact the valley nearer to me, and the sun shortly disappeared up into a bank of cloud with no way of coming out to play again.

After reviewing some of the telephoto shots I decided this one was worth following through with an edit.
